Sport GVP
Gender-based violence in sports has become a critical issue across Europe, revealing gaps in knowledge, leadership, and policy.
The “Sport GVP” project highlights and describes the specific barriers faced by North Macedonia, Denmark, Greece, Cyprus, and Italy, encouraging solutions for safer sports environments.
Macedonia has numerous deficiencies that hinder the participation of women and minorities in sports. Many athletes are not aware of their rights or the channels for reporting abuse, and they also lack trust in the existing mechanisms for reporting gender-based violence in sports.
Urgent systemic change is needed with comprehensive solutions, such as:
– Establishing secure, anonymous reporting systems to protect athletes from retaliation;
– Awareness campaigns about the importance of reporting gender-based violence in and through sports;
– Inclusivity initiatives in sports that ensure equal opportunities and support for all athletes.
Only through collective efforts can we begin to eradicate gender-based violence in and through sports, ensuring that athletes, regardless of gender, can participate safely and with dignity.
